Research shows massage can help treat a broad range of conditions including:
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain can be debilitating. The facial nerve is very near the TMJ. We now know that much of the pain felt in the facial nerve in TMJ cases is caused by trigger points in the muscles of mastication referring to the facial nerve. TMJ pain may also be exacerbated by cranial and atlas/axis distortions, as well as structural imbalances in your back, hips, and legs.
Atlas distortions tilting left, for example, will cause the muscles of mastication to draw the jaw to the right in order to chew and speak. This unusual strain on the jaw muscles may cause trigger point referrals into the facial nerve and TMJ.
If your hips are tilting left, your jaw and neck muscles must pull harder to the right in order to keep your eyes and ears level with the horizon and to correct the occlusion of the teeth while eating and speaking.
This excessive and prolonged strain on your neck and jaw muscles may develop trigger points which refer pain into the facial nerve and the TMJ.
NST can provide relief from:
Headaches may be caused by trigger point (TrP) referrals from the neck and shoulder muscles, but they can also be exacerbated by atlas/axis distortions, as well as structural imbalances in your back, hips, and legs. Trigger point referrals are not only painful, they are also potentially dangerous. TrPs constrict the arteries at the referral site making the area ischemic. TrPs behind the eyes or into the brain, for example, could potentially cause dysfunction in those structures due to lack of proper blood flow.
Atlas distortions to the left, for example, are likely caused by spasmed suboccipital muscles causing TrP referrals above the ears and over the eyes.
Atlas/axis distortions may also restrict blood supply to the brain which may cause “pounding” headaches.
If your hips are tilting left, for example, your neck muscles must pull harder to the right in order to keep your eyes and ears level with the horizon.
This excessive and prolonged strain on your neck muscles may develop TrPs which refer pain to the head we describe as headaches or migraines.
Barriers to learning may be caused by anatomical distortions of the neck and cranium. These distortions may have been caused by a car accident, sporting injury, or even a seemingly simple slip and fall. Some of these distortions may have been present from birth due to the stresses placed on the head and neck during delivery.
Recovering from and coping with physical disabilities can be hampered by structural imbalances and spasmed muscles. Neurosomatic Therapy (NST) can be a powerful tool in addressing these imbalances and helping to encourage greater function.
